EV Charger Service & Repair

Find Out Why the Charger Stops Before Replacing It

A charging failure can come from the electrical supply, equipment, vehicle settings or communications. YKCA helps assess the installation, separate those causes and define repair, replacement or manufacturer-support work.

What & Why

Record the symptom and stop using visibly damaged equipment.

Note the charger model, indicator pattern or exact error message, when the issue occurs and whether it happens with more than one vehicle. Keep recent installation changes or power events in the history. These observations help narrow the assessment without opening energized equipment.

Stop charging if the equipment is damaged, smells burned or behaves abnormally. Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker or bypass a protection feature. Manufacturer diagnostics may support the process, but internal repairs and warranty replacement depend on the product and its authorized service path.

Equipment

Charger model and serial information when accessible

Symptoms

Exact error, indicator pattern and time of occurrence

History

Earlier normal operation and recent changes

Records

Installation documents and any manufacturer support case

Project Scope

A clear scope for this part of the charging project.

Agree on the equipment, electrical work and completion checks before authorizing installation or repair.

Initial symptom review

Separate no-power, interrupted charging, reduced output, vehicle refusal and app-only issues before choosing the work.

Electrical supply assessment

Review the circuit, protective devices and installation conditions relevant to the fault.

Configuration review

Check the documented charging setting, access controls, scheduling and any load-management arrangement.

Manufacturer support

Identify applicable diagnostic guidance, product support and warranty requirements. Keep sealed-equipment work within the authorized service path.

Repair or replacement scope

Explain what can be corrected in the installation and what requires equipment replacement or another provider.

Operational check and record

Verify the agreed operating configuration after work and document unresolved conditions or further manufacturer steps.

Before You Choose

The symptom guides the next check.

Compare the available choices against the vehicle, property and charging schedule.

QuestionWhat to establish
No lights or no powerSupply availability and the circuit require assessment.
Stops during chargingRecord the timing, error and conditions; investigate the cause rather than repeatedly restarting.
Connected but not chargingVehicle demand, settings and equipment status may need review.
Charging works but the app is offlineMonitoring and communication may be a separate issue from the power connection.

Estimate Planning

What changes the electrical scope and cost?

Ask for the actual configuration, included work and any conditions that still need site confirmation.

  • Time needed to identify the fault and reproduce the condition
  • Circuit or installation defects requiring correction
  • Manufacturer parts, warranty process or replacement equipment
  • Setup, recommissioning and any necessary repeat visit

FAQ

EV Charger Service & Repair: questions before work begins.

Does a red light mean I need a new charger?

The meaning depends on the exact model and pattern. Record the indication and follow the manufacturer’s support path. An assessment should identify the cause before replacement is selected.

Can you repair any charger brand internally?

Discuss the model first. Electrical installation work and product-internal repair are different scopes. Some faults require manufacturer-authorized service or replacement rather than an on-site internal repair.

Why is the car connected but not charging?

Charging can be blocked by vehicle demand, schedules or equipment access settings as well as a fault. Tesla’s status guide distinguishes several of these conditions. Use the guide for your exact equipment.

Should I keep resetting the breaker to finish charging?

No. Repeated tripping needs investigation. Stop using the affected charging arrangement and arrange a qualified assessment instead of defeating or repeatedly resetting protection.

Is a Wi-Fi fault the same as an electrical failure?

Not necessarily. Tell the technician whether charging itself works and which app feature is unavailable. The supported offline behavior and update requirements depend on the charger.

Questions worth a closer look

From a short answer to a practical plan.

Explore the causes, tradeoffs and records behind these common project questions.

What should I report if the charger stops overnight?

Report whether the breaker actually tripped, the station indication, session timing, equipment models and any visible damage or burning odor. Those observations help separate a supply fault from station or vehicle behavior.
