Permanent LED Lighting A Roofline System for Every Season
Plan permanent outdoor LED lighting around the building, power supply and controls. Compare track appearance, lighting zones and everyday use before choosing equipment for a year-round installation.
Design concept
Permanent Holiday Lighting
Choose the system for the house and the way you will use it.
Permanent roofline lighting is a different project from hanging seasonal strings. It combines a mounting system, lights, power supplies and controls intended to remain installed. The design should look considered during the day as well as at night, and it should leave equipment accessible for future service.
YKCA can review the electrical and installation scope for your proposed system. Start with the roofline sections you want to light, the appearance of the track and the location of controllers and power equipment. Then decide whether you want quiet architectural accents, holiday colors or separate settings for different elevations.
If you are comparing Trimlight, JellyFish Lighting or another product, send the exact system information with your request. Features, installation channels and warranty terms are product-specific. Brand references here support your planning; they do not establish an authorized dealer relationship or promise availability of a particular system.

Permanent System Brief
- Roofline elevations and daytime photos
- Preferred system or product model
- Everyday accents and holiday scenes
- Controller location and network access
- HOA or owner approval requirements
Project Scope
Plan the hardware and the everyday experience.
A permanent lighting proposal should identify the system, installation details and handoff responsibilities.
Track & Mounting
Review the mounting surface, corners, color and visible termination points. Ask how the track appears from the street and how individual sections can be serviced.
Power & Equipment
Determine supply requirements from the selected product. Identify power supplies, controller locations and any needed electrical work before finalizing the layout.
Zones & Light Placement
Separate front, side and feature areas where supported. Match the physical layout to the scenes you want to use rather than assuming every section needs the same effect.
Controls & Schedules
Confirm the app and controller generation, network requirements and supported scheduling features. Decide who will own the account and manage the settings.
Service & Documentation
Keep model numbers, manuals, equipment locations and warranty documents together. Record the service contact and the procedure for a failed light or controller.

How It Works
From product selection to a usable lighting system.
Settle the building details and control expectations before equipment is ordered.
Review the Elevations
Identify desired coverage, mounting surfaces and sightlines. Bring any HOA design rules or owner restrictions into the initial discussion.
Confirm the Product
Compare the exact system's track, power needs, app functions and service terms. Resolve supply and installation responsibilities in the written scope.
Install & Configure
Review the completed zones and agreed scenes. Confirm that the owner can access the controls and understands the selected operating schedule.
Keep the System Records
Retain the layout, manuals and warranty documents. Note future roof, gutter or paint work that may require the lighting to be protected or temporarily removed.
Before Choosing a Brand
Compare what will matter after the first holiday.
A color demonstration is useful, but it is only one part of the long-term installation decision.
Year-Round Suitability
UL distinguishes seasonal lighting products from products evaluated for year-round use. Leaving a seasonal string in place does not make it a permanent system.
Daytime Appearance
Compare a track sample against the fascia or soffit. Visibility depends on the building, mounting position and product rather than a universal 'invisible' result.
Useful White Light
Review the white tone and brightness you prefer on the actual exterior. A setting that looks right on a phone may feel different across a full elevation.
Scheduling Features
Trimlight and JellyFish publish scheduling guidance for compatible controls. Confirm the exact app and controller features instead of assuming every generation works alike.
Owner Access
Decide who controls the account and how settings will be handed over. Include a plan for a changed router, new phone or future property owner.
Repairable Installation
Ask about access to power equipment and replacement components. A permanent installation still needs a practical path for troubleshooting and repair.

Frequently asked project questions

Explore the causes, choices and practical next steps behind common project questions.
Why are my permanent outdoor LED lights coming loose?
Possible causes include unsuitable or deteriorated surfaces, preparation problems, incompatible adhesive and cable tension. Identify the failed interface and review the complete support method against the exact product instructions. Replacing tape alone may not correct the cause.

The full run introduces different connections, distances, accessories and control conditions. A direct test does not clear those factors. Document the route and exact model, then use manufacturer-directed diagnosis instead of assuming every downstream module is defective.
Read the full guide: Permanent Outdoor LEDs: Why a Working Section Can Fail in the Full Run ↗Can permanent LED lights be cut to fit corners and unlit gaps?
Only when the exact product permits the proposed modification and it follows the manufacturer’s method and limits. Similar-looking models may differ. Plan the whole route, connector locations and control behavior before cutting or mounting.

Check the exact product’s white LED channels and control mode, then view a sample on the actual facade at normal brightness. Review warm-to-cool appearance, surface colors and beam pattern. Record the accepted white setting and brightness; a white app swatch alone is insufficient.
