Load inventory — illustrative design concept

Useful for planning. Not a permit load calculation.

This tool totals the equipment input watts you enter. It does not apply electrical-code demand factors, evaluate conductor or breaker sizes, test panel compatibility, or determine spare service capacity. Never use its result as permission to add a circuit.

Use electrical input watts

Use a manufacturer’s data sheet, accessible label or suitable measurement. Do not enter heating output in BTU/h, cooling tons or the breaker’s handle rating.

Describe one daily scenario

Enter equivalent hours at the stated input. A variable-speed or cycling appliance does not draw its rated input for every hour it is switched on.

Select possible overlap

Check equipment that could run at the same time. This is a planning scenario, not proof that other combinations cannot occur.

Build your equipment inventory.

Blank wattage means an unknown load, not zero. Enter 0 for an item that is absent. Nothing entered here is submitted to YKCA.

Use the applicable generation and delivery usage charges. A single rate does not model time-of-use periods, tiering, fixed charges, export credits or demand charges.

Enter your equipment inputs and calculate to see the scenario.

The arithmetic is visible.

  • Connected kW = sum of entered watts ÷ 1,000.
  • Overlap kW = watts for checked equipment ÷ 1,000.
  • Daily kWh = sum of watts × equivalent operating hours ÷ 1,000.
  • 30-day usage cost = daily kWh × 30 × entered $/kWh.

For example, a hypothetical 1,000 W load running for 2 hours contributes 2 kWh. A daily estimate does not represent seasonal peaks or starting current.

Bring these to the electrician.

  • The printed inventory with equipment model numbers.
  • Accessible exterior panel and service labels; keep covers installed.
  • Existing permitted drawings or load calculations, if available.
  • Planned EV charging current and future electrification scope.
  • Available utility demand history, if your professional requests it.
  • Parking location, approximate route and any access constraints.

The professional review determines the applicable code method, existing system limits and whether load management is a suitable option.

Does selected overlap prove that my existing electrical service is large enough?

No. It only adds the loads you selected. The tool does not enforce that operating pattern or apply a code load method. Service, feeder and installation capacity need a separate professional review.
