Bay Area smart home installation — automation, lighting, security

Smart Home

Bay Area Smart Home — Wired by Electricians, Not Cable Guys

Lutron lighting, Sonos audio, smart locks and cameras, Wi-Fi mesh, and Alexa/Google/HomeKit integrations — installed by a C-10 crew that does the panel work and the low-voltage on the same bid.

What We Do

Smart-home installs that talk to each other.

Most "smart home" problems aren't the devices — they're the integration. Devices work fine in isolation but fail at the system level: lights won't trigger off occupancy, scenes don't fire from voice, the Wi-Fi mesh has dead zones in the room with the smart TV, the security cameras burned through Wi-Fi bandwidth, the smart lock locks but the app doesn't.

YKCA approaches smart-home like a wiring + integration project, not a gadget install. We bid the cabling, the controls, the network, and the ecosystem programming as one scope — and we commission the system before turnover so it actually works.

Why Wired-First

  • Cat6/6A backbone for cameras + AP backhaul
  • Hardwired controls don't fail when Wi-Fi does
  • Speaker wire over Bluetooth for music quality
  • Smart-switch boxes pre-wired for future replacement
  • One commissioning visit, not five service calls

FAQ

Smart-home questions, straight answers.

Yes. Our C-10 license covers C-7 low-voltage, so we wire and install smart-home gear as part of the same crew that does the electrical. No separate smart-home subcontractor coordination required, and smart-lighting controls integrate with your panel and circuit work.

Each ecosystem has tradeoffs. Alexa has the widest device compatibility. Google Home integrates tightly with Android and Nest. Apple HomeKit is the most privacy-focused and has the best iOS integration. Matter (the cross-ecosystem standard) is making this choice less consequential for new installs. We install for whichever ecosystem the customer prefers and recommend Matter-compatible gear where available.

Lutron RadioRA 2 and Caseta for residential; Lutron Quantum, Vive, and HomeWorks for high-end residential and commercial; Wattstopper and nLight for commercial controls. We program scenes, time-of-day schedules, occupancy sensors, and integrate with your ecosystem.

Yes. We do structured cabling (Cat6/6A drops to where access points should be), and install mesh systems from Ubiquiti, Eero, and Orbi. For larger or multi-story homes we recommend hardwired backhaul rather than wireless-only mesh — significant performance difference.

Both. Retrofits are most of our smart-home work — wireless lighting controls (Caseta) work in existing wiring, smart switches replace standard switches without rewiring, and Wi-Fi mesh networking deploys without rewiring. For new construction, we pre-wire conduit and drops at the rough-in stage for full hardwired control.
